04. Community, Culture, Commerce: Inside Chicago's Black the Block | Take
This past weekend, Chicago’s beautiful black community gathered for the Black the Block event. A wonderful outdoor marketplace and festival celebrating local Black owned businesses, independent creators and Chicago talent. While artist Taylor Bennet served as the host to keep the day’s energy moving. The heart of the event belonged to the dozens of local vendors line to line throughout Soldier’s Field.
Packed with innovation and craftsmanship form across the Chicagoland area. Highlights included an inventor demonstrating a custom AI service designed specifically for our hair. There was a health focus vendor showcasing a new line of thoughtful feminine care products. From local pharmacist with their own vitamins and wellness resources to talented Chicago jewelry makers displaying handmade pieces, the marketplace highlighted the sheer depth of local entrepreneurship.
Culinary vendors from across the city kept the crowds fueled with regional food favorites, while local visual artists displayed original work that grounded the event firmly in Chicago’s rich arts culture. The day served as a powerful showcase of community resilience, creativity and commerce. Proving that the city’s independent creators and small business owners are driving the culture forward.
